Dallas Voice contributor Brent Paxton was among those who made it over to the Round-Up Saloon on Sunday night for Lady Gaga’s performance. Paxton, a videographer who goes by the nickname “B-Pax,” reports that things inside the club were pretty wild. He says Round-Up staff members came around before the performance — which didn’t begin until after 1 a.m. — and threatened to ban him from the club for life if he shot video of Gaga. For life! So instead B-Pax managed to get these photos, but even that wasn’t easy. There was a lot of pushing and shoving in the crowd. He says he almost got knocked to the ground a few times, not to mention trying to hold on to his camera.

UPDATE No. 2: Alan Pierce, co-owner of the Round-Up, explained that the club had very short notice that Gaga was coming, so they enlisted some of their regular customers to volunteer to secure the dancefloor for Gaga’s performance. Pierce, who was out of town at the time, said Gaga’s representatives told club management that no professional video would be allowed. Pierce said he apologizes if some of the volunteers may have been overzealous, and anyone with concerns can contact him through the club’s website or Facebook page.

Thats very strange. No one in back implied that we couldn’t take photos or videos which surprised me (bc they did previously when she was here in July), in fact since I was along her entry path- several bouncers suggested we take pics or video rather than attempting to touch her- which was the big no-no. No one ever said anything about my flip video that I had out all night in anticipation. See my video through my “website” link here.
I’m glad I avoided that mess. So why can’t her fans take pics or video? Afraid she wont make money off it?
I shot video of the entire performance, as did many others, without incident. Also, I didn’t see any of ‘Gaga’s people’ give anyone any problems. It was the Round Up staff’s ‘volunteers’ that were rude and obnoxious, pushing people around and constantly yelling over the microphone. It’s particularly ironic given that they bill themself as a ‘friendly’ bar. I suspect that if any such incidents occurred, it was the fault of the venue, and not her staff. I get that she’s the biggest thing on the planet, and needs security, but it was handled poorly by the Round Up.
