There must have been something in the craft services table on the set of the ’70s drama Family. First Meredith Baxter, now co-star Kristy McNichol has come out as lesbian.
In an interview with People magazine, the 49-year-old actress — who won Emmys for Family at ages 14 and 16 and later starred on the sitcom Empty Nest — said it was about time. About two years ago, Baxter, who played McNichol’s sister on the show, also came out.
On Family, McNichol played Buddy, the tomboy youngest sibling. She was always something of a lesbian icon for her rough, no-nonsense persona; on Empty Nest, she played a cop.

Nancy McKeon (Jo from Facts of Life) is married with children, I doubt she’s secretly gay.
And joe1cr, by all accounts Kristy didn’t “lick a lot of pusses.” She’s been had two long term relationships, one with sexy actress Elisabeth Brooks from 1980 – 1993, and then her current relationship of nearly 20 yrs. I’m sure those aren’t the only two women she’s slept with, but I doubt there were many more. You sound homophobic with that “Hollyweird” crap.
I love it!!! I’ve been a long-time fan of Kristy McNichol for many years… I fell in love w/ her in “Little Darlings” where she played opposite of Matt Dillon, Tatum O’neil and low &behold our very own Cynthia Nixon!!!!! I had a feeling way back then about the film…. Whether its 5, 10 or 25 years that it takes for someone to feel the confidence needed to say “I’m Gay” when you say it, you feel the rush run through your entire body!!!!
