Recent actions targeting our community make the work of Trevor Project more important than ever, said Bryē Michaels.
“I’m terrified, so I can only imagine how kids are feeling,” he said.
Michaels has founded a new non-profit called Klub Kweers. As its first project, he’s encouraging individuals, groups, churches and businesses to donate to Trevor Project under one umbrella.
His goal is to collectively donate $50,000 by April 1.
Marketing materials are available online and can be downloaded and donations can be made online.
Michaels tells his story that begins: “I grew up in a conservative country community and was always the kid who did not fit — called faggot from toddler age. As many in my generation, we were taught the hard way to mask anything that might single us out as gay.”
And if his story doesn’t convince you of the importance of Trevor, then he offers cold, hard stats: Suicide is a leading cause of death for young people in our country and LGBTQ youth are four times more likely to attempt suicide than youth in general.
More than 1.8 million LGBTQ people ages 13-24 seriously consider suicide each year and at least one attempts suicide every 45 seconds.
