Even if you’re old enough to remember back 30 years, it may be a stretch to remember a time when k.d. lang was considered an outlier of country music. But when she emerged with that brunch cut and plaintive voice, the Canadian singer seemed like a queer fit for Nashville. But no one could deny the appeal of her voice on begrudging hits like “Miss Chatelaine.”

It was 25 years ago this month that lang came out as gay, just as her latest album, Ingenue, was scaling the charts; the biggest single from that album, “Constant Craving,” would go on to win the Grammy for pop (not country) female vocal, and cement her as an icon of music. (See her MTV Unplugged video of the song below.)

In honor of that 25 year anniversary, lang is now embarked on the Ingenue Redux Tour, when she will perform the entirety of that celebrated album, for the first time in decades. A brief none-city tour, in ends up in Texas, with a performance at SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium on Sept. 23.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at AXS.com.
