The U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the newly drawn boundaries for U.S. House seats in Texas. Former Rep. Colin Allred and Rep. Julie Johnson will face each other in the Democratic primary for House seat 33 to determine who will be the Democratic nominee.
The filing deadline is today (Monday, Dec. 8).
Allred had been running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. John Cornyn. He anounced today that he’ll seek his old seat in District 33. Rep. Jasmine Crockett is expected to jump into the Democratic primary for Senate. Cornyn faces two opponents for the Republican nomination — Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt.
Johnson currently represents District 32. Current boundaries for the seat includes parts of north and east Dallas, southern Collin County and parts of Denton County. The new District 32 extends about 100 miles into East Texas and is a majority Republican district. She announced about a week ago that she would seek election in District 33, which is primarily in Dallas County.
If Crockett announces tonight she will seek election to the Senate, state Rep. Venton Jones may file at the last minute to run for her U.S. House seat. The state House and U.S. House districts virtually overlap and include parts of Oak Lawn, West Dallas and most of southern Dallas.
