The purge has begun.

Early this morning (Monday, Oct. 20), all four rainbow crosswalks at the intersection of Westheimer and Taft in the heart of Houston’s Montrose gayborhood were removed, despite attempts by protesters — who showed up as early as 2:30 a.m. — to protect them, according to Fox26.

The rainbow crosswalks there were first installed in 2017, according to news reports.

Fox26 reports that when construction crews arrived at the intersection to begin covering up the rainbow crosswalks, they were met by numerous protesters who had already congregated to try and protect the painted crosswalks.

The Houston television station says that Houston police officers arrived and protesters were moved out of the crosswalk and onto the sidewalks, and barricades were erected to keep them out of the street. A few of the protesters refused to move out of the street, and police eventually put them in handcuffs and arrested them. There was no word on what charges they faced.

  1. The Purge? Seriously? Give me a break with the over dramatic reaction. Its a public street, which can not be altered to distract drivers. If you rainbow crap everywhere, fine, but not ON the street. Hang a flag every 5 feet, just don’t mess with the roads.
No one is trying to “erase us”, but people are SICK of this rainbow and queer crap all over the place.
