I imagine that Israel Luna’s resume lists three skills: (1) make movies; (2) throw parties; (3) stir up controversy. It’s not enough that he pissed off a few members of the trans community with his campy blaxploitation-esque grindhouse Ticked Off Trannies with Knives (even though the movie was all about empowerment); now he’s doing his best to anger the Christian right with his latest. The title? Kicking Zombie Ass for Jesus. (We imagine the zombie libby won’t be too happy, either.)
The premise is silly fun: It’s the zombie apocalypse, and the only survivors are the gays and the bible thumpers. If politics makes strange bedfellows, then an army of undead makes for unlikely allies, as the gospelers join the gossippers to battle the brain-eating hoard. Of course, things don’t go smoothly.
The idea was borne of Luna’s frustration with religious rhetoric against gays, so he decided to write script where the haters are forced to work with the homos. The script is written. The cast includes TOTWK vets Richard Curtin (our own Edna Jean), Krystal Summers, Jenna Skyy and Drag Racer Willam Belli.
Only it hasn’t been filmed yet. And that’s where you come in.
Luna wants to start production on the second in his grindhouse trilogy before the end of summer, so has been approved for a Kickstarter campaign — the website that allows filmmakers to market and fundraise for their indie projects. Luna needs $175,000; as of now, he has $150 … not thousand, dollars. Hey, the campaign is 90 minutes old. But you can help him raise the money (he has 30 days to get it funded) by clicking here.
