Baylor University in Waco has invited HRC CEO Kelley Robinson, who is Catholic, to speak. Also invited to the school is Paul Raushenbush, who is a gay Baptist minister. The school is billing them as “gay Christian advocates.”
The pair will speak on campus at All Are Neighbors, countering a Turning Point USA event at the school. That organization was founded by Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last summer. Donald Trump Jr. is expected to attend.
What makes the invitation to two LGBTQ+ leaders so surprising is that a group of gay and lesbian alumni formed a gay and lesbian alumni association to be a resource for social purposes and to reach out to LGBTQ students, according to Paul williams, one of the group’s founders. The school’s response was to threaten to sue the group unless they dropped the Baylor name.
In 2022, however, the school chartered an LGBTQ+ student organization. Until then, the school had forbidden students from using on-campus facilities for LGBTQ+ organizing or activities.
