I am in Houston to cover the mayoral runoff that is taking place today. Annise Parker is running against Gene Locke. According to the latest poll, Parker leads by 13 percent. Results will start coming in after polls close at 7 p.m. (Central Time).

The watch party this evening is taking place in downtown Houston at the George Brown Convention Center.

For the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, this has been one of the most watched races of the election cycle. If elected, Houston will become the largest city with a gay or lesbian mayor. Of the 79 candidates endorsed by Victory Fund this year, almost 60 won their races.

  1. This race had heated up Houstonians. It’s been a dirty race, but the best person for the job will prevail.

  2. I hope you’re able to write a follow up after the election. I met Annise when I was 16 years old at a Unitarian Universalist fellowship, and then invited her to come speak at my high school. She asked for my vote about 7 years ago, and she got it. 🙂 I really hope she wins this race. Parker for Mayor!!
