Arttitude and The Dallas Eagle have joined forces to create an ofrenda celebrating
Día de Los Muertos

Arttitude, a nonprofit that focuses on the intersection of art and the advocacy of the LGBTQ+ and marginalized communities, this week announced a collaboration with The Dallas Eagle to construct community ofrenda — altar — in celebration of Día de los Muertos.
The ofrenda will be located at The Dallas Eagle through Nov. 2.
Día de los Muertos is “a vibrant and culturally rich Mexican tradition where families gather to honor and remember the deceased. The ofrenda serves as a culturally significant piece during the celebration,” an Artitude press release explained. “This community ofrenda combines the art of the altar with a focus on community participation. Everyone is encouraged to bring items, photographs or other remembrance items of loved ones and place them on the altar.
Jerome Larez, co-founder of Arttitude, said, “Día de los Muertos is a time for remembrance and celebration. Through this collaboration with The Dallas Eagle, we are creating a space for our community to come together in reflection, healing and joy.
“It is time to honor those who came before us and the love that still binds us together.”
Throughout its installation, the ofrenda will be available to “be seen and experienced” during Eagle’s regular open hours. Larez stressed that “people of every background and identity are and will be invited to see and take part by giving offerings throughout the installation.
He added, “All contributions are welcome and can be offered at any time during the installation. This element of participation is essential to the spirit of this occasion.”
