Really?

The Arlington Pride committee canceled any celebration this year when the city repealed its nondiscrimination ordinance.

But on the city’s Facebook page is posted the message, “Happy Pride Month” and added its signature, “Arlington. The American Dream City.”

The vote to repeal the ordinance was 5-4 and the mayor was on the side of keeping it in place. Those voting to repeal were more worried about threats from the governor and weren’t voting in favor of discrimination — although a repeal vote did actually say that discrimination is OK in Arlington.

Pride organizer DeeJay Johannessen said he couldn’t in good conscience invite people to his city if he couldn’t assure their safety.

Arlington’s Pride celebration had grown to the the second largest in North Texas, after only Dallas.
