We missed it, but Saturday, Oct. 10, was National PrEP Day.
The HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute is calling on Congress to pass the PrEP Access and Coverage Act of 2026, which would guarantee barrier-free and private insurance coverage for all forms of PrEP without cost-sharing, establish national grant programs to provide PrEP to the uninsured, and increase community and provider education.
The CDC estimates that 2.2 million people in the United States could benefit from PrEP — but many people continue to face insurance coverage barriers.
The bill has 41 U.S. senators and 179 representatives as co-sponsors.
“The extraordinary high number of Members of Congress supporting the PrEP Access and Coverage Act clearly shows that there is strong support and momentum in Congress to increasing access and reducing barriers to preventing HIV through PrEP in the United States,” said Carl Schmid, executive director of the HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute, in a statement.
And hope you had a happy National PrEP Day.
