Sheriff Don Schieferdecker
The sheriff of Schuyler County, Ill., Don Schieferdecker, is fighting calls for his resignation after an anti-gay and anti-Semitic slur.
On his Facebook page, he Schieferdecker commented on a friend’s photo by writing, “Yup and his mouth is open, his glasses are off, he’s ready, little fag Jew boy.”
Schieferdecker called it a harmless joke and said he was extremely sorry.
The Civil Rights Agenda, a Chicago-based LGBT group, called for his resignation. They asked the mayor and town council of the small, rural city in downstate Illinois to ask Schieferdecker to step down.
The sheriff responded by saying it’s an embarrassing situation but he has no intentions of resigning. AOL News picked up the story today.
A spokesperson for the LGBT group said the apology shows no remorse.
What a fat, stupid, bigoted waste of Oxygen this “sheriff” is. I’d like for him to spend a few moments in quiet conversation with a couple of my gay Jewish buddies, in an out-of-the-way place.

The irony is that he looks like Buddy Hackett – a Jew! The sickening thing is that he calls what he said “a harmless joke.” Even worse,when the [pig finally does go, he’ll blame DA JOOOOZ because you know we control the media & the whole government….
People just take things entirely to seriously.. Stop trying to make something out of nothing. He said it was a joke..and he’s learned his lesson.. If it was a repetitive thing then yea it’d be a problem. Calm down America and stop being on edge!
Danielle – let’s say the sheriff had left a comment to a female friend or co-worker’s picture, calling her a “hot little slut, too bad she’s a spic rug-muncher” or something equally disgusting, would you be so quick to call it a joke and tell everyone to move on?
It doesn’t matter whether it happens once or a million times – the comments were inappropriate for an individual in his profession, and tell a lot about the reality of who he is. Everyone has little verbal slip-ups, but not everyone has slip-ups that that involve homophobia and anti-semitism.
He shouldn’t apologize and resign for saying what he said, he should apologize and resign for the simple fact of being stupid enough to do it on Facebook.
With his position, you’d think he would know better. And I agree that his apology shows no remorse. He’s just placating us…..apparently he has no common sense because with his position you’d think he would watch what he posts on public sites. He really is a hatemonger! I’m so glad I’m not in his county….
I don’t think he should resign or apologize. Get mad at me and say anything you want to, but the fact is everyone in this country has freedom of speach and can say what they want.
Freedom of Speech does not protect you from being fired or forced into resignation. It protects you from the GOVERNMENT infringing your right to express yourself.
While I don’t support what he said, I would like to point out the first 2 comments on this are no better.

Mikey J – ‘What a filthy bigot, and an ugly one at that!’ As if whether he is ugly or handsome has anything to do with the issue at hand.
Neither of you are any better than him, obviously showing you are discriminatory against other people in SOME unfair way, even if it isn’t the same ways as him. I know I don’t treat everyone equally, I admit it, but being discriminatory in response to bigotry makes you no better than the bigot in the first place.
If you just said he was wrong to say it and he should know better and it’s a shame people have those kinds of feelings in the justice system, thats one thing, but to respond to that by calling him fat, ugly, and stupid makes you just as bad.
