Three Republicans speaking on a panel called “Marriage Equality and the Republican Party” at Washington University in St. Louis recently signed a resolution to head off anti-gay rhetoric during the 2016 Republican presidential campaign.
The three Republicans who created “The St. Louis Resolution” are Meghan McCain, a political columnist, TV host and daughter of Sen. John McCain; Gregory T. Angelo, Log Cabin Republican executive director, and Fred Karger, the first openly gay candidate to run for president,
They plan to send the resolution to 18 prospective Republican presidential candidates:
Ambassador John Bolton, Gov. Jeb Bush, Dr. Ben Carson, Gov. Chris Christie. Sen. Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Sen, Lindsey Graham, Gov. Bobby Jindal, Gov. John Kasich, Gov. George Pataki, Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. Rand Paul, Gov. Mike Pence, Gov. Rick Perry, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Rick Santorum, Donald Trump and Gov. Scott Walker.
A copy will be sent to Reince Preibus, chairman of Republican National Committee.
“It’s time for the party of Lincoln to treat all Americans with respect and dignity,” said Meghan McCain. “If the Republican Party is ever going to attract younger voters, our candidates for president need to stop their nasty attacks and move on to issues that will unite us as a party and a country.”
