Carol Leifer — who will read from her new book Thursday, June 11 at the 2009 Black Tie Dinner Launch Party in Dallas — began her career in comedy clubs, and her big break came one night when David Letterman showed up unexpectedly at The Comic Strip and saw her show.
That led to Leifer having 25 appearances on NBC’s "Late Night With David Letterman." But that’s just the tip of her career iceberg.
"We are thrilled and honored to have one of the best comedic minds of our time joining us for the Black Tie Dinner Launch Party," Black Tie co-chair Laurie Foley said in a statement released this week. "Anyone who was ever a fan of ‘Seinfeld’ will recognize Carol Leifer’s wit. She contributed to more than 75 episodes, eventually becoming a producer of the show that has been hailed as the greatest sitcom of all time."
Leifer’s first book, a collection of humorous essays titled "When You Lie About Your Age, the Terrorists Win," is a Wall Street Journal bestseller. She has recently been featured on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "The View," "The Today Show," "Real Time with Bill Maher," "Issues with Jane Velez Mitchell — Headline News," "The Tonight Show," Howard Stern’s Sirius radio show and, of course, "Late Night With David Letterman."
As an actress, Leifer has starred in, created and executive-produced the WB sitcom "Alright, Already," called one of the 10 best shows of the new season by The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. She has also made guest appearances on "Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Naked Truth" and "Will and Grace."
