A source in the administrative office at the Fort Worth Police Department just told me that “an officer has stepped forward” to volunteer as the department’s LGBT liaison, and that Chief Jeffrey Halstead is working through the process right now of getting final approval for the position.
The source said once the approval is complete, the new liaison will be available to the press, so stay tuned for details.
Great news! The public outcry after the raid has been working.
at least things seem to be moving in a better direction finally. let’s just hope the police and tabc realize we will be watching and making sure they follow through.
Assuming that Chief Halstead is not just assigning the liaison position to the first, and maybe only, person to step forward and volunteer, what criteria is being applied to determine the person’s suitablilty for what may turn out to be a thankless job? Are any TLGB organizations involved in her or his selection as liaison, or do we just accept whomever the FWPD appoints?
Obviously, many of us have questions relating to this matter, but let us start with these basics. Once the FWPD decision has been made — good, bad, or huh? — this will be the person we will deal with.
I feel it would be best for this officer to be reviewed by the FWPD as well as other elected officials, then meet with the LGBT community in FW for further review to make sure this is someone who has the best interest of the LGBT community as well as the city of Fort Worth in mind.
