Ted Cruz
For such a straight-laced guy, Republican Texas Sen.-elect Ted Cruz sure seems to be fixated on gay stuff. If you’ll remember, during the GOP primary Cruz repeatedly attacked former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert for appearing at the city’s gay Pride celebration. Now, Cruz claims Republicans lost the presidential race because during the third debate, “I’m pretty certain Mitt Romney actually French-kissed Barack Obama.”
Cruz’s latest gay reference was an attempt to illustrate his theory that Romney moved too far to the center and was afraid to show any disagreement with the president. He claims the only time Romney “contested ideas” was during the first debate. But, as Politico notes, Cruz seems to be trying to rewrite history: “Most observers have pinpointed the first debate as a moment where Romney moderated his rhetoric and policy proposals, claiming the political center.”
The story goes on to say that Cruz refused to answer questions about whether he agrees with Romney’s assertion that Obama’s “gifts” to minorities and others were the deciding factor in the election. What’s the matter, senator-elect, cat got your tongue?
Anyhow, my point is that if Cruz keeps up these gay references, perhaps we should nickname him Ted “Cruise.”
