Earlier this month, Arnold Jones posted about KERA’s LGBT content airing for national Pride. Soon after, I received an e-mail about the Sundance Channel’s lineup for Pride month. The channel “celebrates with DOCday programming dedicated to films representing the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community. Airing Monday nights at 7 p.m. CST, the event includes three DOCday premieres.” Films meaning documentaries, just to be clear. So far, they’ve aired “Pageant” and “For The Bible Tells Me So.” The channel has also commissioned five episodes of “Lizzy the Lezzy,” about the “first-ever animated lesbian stand-up comedian,” which probably isn’t the hardest claim to make, but still, we like.

Yesterday though, in Queer Sighted, Dave White mentioned Fox Movie Channel’s apparent participation in Pride month. Tomorrow night, the channel airs the British film “Staircase,” with Rex Harrison and Richard Burton and directed by Stanley Donen. The Fox site describes it as such:

Intriguing British film for its casting of Rex Harrison and Richard Burton as gay hairdressers who show affection by constant jabs and bickering. Poignant portrayal of devotion as Burton’s character cares for his invalid mother.

But White isn’t buying that so much. He says “Fox Movie Channel is here to help by airing the grossest, possibly most demented film about gays from the olden times.” White calls Staircase “the nastiest, insanest movie about homosexuals ever!” Which only means, I’m gonna have to watch.
