Trinity Pride has scheduled its event for the last weekend in June. The event will take place on June 28 from 6-10 p.m. along a section of Main Street just south of downtown Fort Worth.
Roger Calderon, president of Trinity Pride, said Main Street will be closed from East Broadway to West Vickery Street. Construction at Magnolia Green Park, site of last year’s Pride event, prompted the move.
Rather than a parade, Calderon said there would be an opening march at 6:30 p.m.
“All the businesses on South Main will be participating,” he said, explaining at least one of the restaurant-bars will have live music. Another business will have a DJ. A Pride market along the street and food trucks will add up to “a lot of activities happening on the street and in the businesses.”
Calderon said this is the first time Trinity Pride has done something more than just a concert in the park. He said his committee decided to rethink the idea of festival. And as the first festival to shut down that portion of South Main, the businesses jumped on board.
Although they lost some national sponsors because of the controversy over DEI, “local businesses are turning out for us,” he said.
To help with expenses, Trinity Pride did an online fundraiser and within five days reached its goal of $5,000.
Calderon said he does events for a living. Recently, he staged DIFFA’s annual fundraiser. Before moving back to Texas, he lived in New York where he organized Pride Week events for the New York City LGBT Community Center.
For Trinity Pride, parking will be available in and around the festival area, but Calderon suggested people coming from the mid-cities or Dallas “take the TRE that will drop you off right at the festival.” Take the TRE to the last station, which is the T&P Station. The last train back leaves Fort Worth T&P Station at 10:48 p.m.
