maxresdefaultCelebration Church in Fort Worth will host a reading of I Am Jazz tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 14) at 7 p.m. as part of a nationwide program sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Welcoming Schools program.
I Am Jazz is a children’s book about growing up trans by transgender activist Jazz Jennings. The teenager shares her own story and the importance of support, compassion and kindness.
The book most recently gained notoriety after residents of Mount Horeb, Wisc., showed support for support for a transgender student and her family after an anti-LGBT hate group shut down her school’s plan to read the book.
Sharon Herrera, president of LGBTQSaves and a coordinator of the event, said the opportunity was too important to pass up.
“HRC called and knowing the importance of the event, I called on all local resources and within two hours we had a plan. We must continue to show our support for our LGBT youth,” Herrera wrote via text.
The reading is free and open to the public.
Celebration Community Church is located at 908 Pennsylvania Ave. in Fort Worth.
