At a reception at the Nasher Sculpture Center on Thursday, March 12, Out & Equal Executive Director Selisse Berry announced the annual Out & Equal Workplace Summit scheduled for Oct. 5-8 will be held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.
The organization held its 2011 convention in Dallas at the Anatole. Berry said only last year’s summit in San Francisco broke the Dallas attendance record. More than 50 corporate CEOs attended the last Dallas conference along with members of their employee resource groups.
Out & Equal works with ERGs at major corporations and government agencies to provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for LGBT employees. Next week, Berry is going to Washington to testify at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
During the week of the convention, local volunteers will be needed to help ensure the conference runs smoothly and to help welcome attendees.
Paul von Wupperfeld, a founder of the ERG at Texas Instruments, said his company will again sponsor a bus taking shuttling attendees from the hotel to Cedar Springs Road. He suggested local ambassadors located at the bus stops to direct people to local bars, restaurants and shops would be helpful.
Sam Seelbach, president of the local Out & Equal, asked attendees at the announcement to help make this the largest conference in the organization’s history and each bring 40 friends. She said as planning continues through the summer, she’ll be asking the community for volunteers.
