David Daigle, 53, died on Oct. 18 of acute myelogenous leukemia that was first diagnosed in March 2010.
Daigle married Doug Frankel on July 4, 2006 in the Rose Garden at Stanley Park in Vancouver on their 11th anniversary.
Daigle was a coach for American Airlines reservations department and worked for the company since 1986. He was a member of the Turtle Creek Chorale for 10 years and was a Black Tie dinner board spouse.
When he turned 50, Daigle became an avid scuba diver and quickly earned his open water and advanced certification. He and Frankel traveled to dive in Cozumel, Florida, Roatan and the southern Caribbean. They did open water dives from cruise ships that offered it and have dived to 120 feet.
In August, Daigle received a stem cell transplant, with his sister as donor, to combat the leukemia, but had a recurrence of the disease within a month. He had been cleared to dive after his transplant but was unable to travel before the illness reappeared.
In addition to his husband, Daigle is survived by his son, Alex; his parents, Claire and Ray Daigle of Enfield, Conn.; his brothers and sisters Rick, Nancy, Randy and Lori; nieces and nephews and Frankel’s family.
The funeral was held at Temple Emanu-el on Oct. 20. Frankel plans to scatter Daigle’s ashes on a deepwater dive on a coral reef off the Florida Keys.
