Yma was an idol of mine as a child. I had one of her records I played over and over much to my parents dismay. I had forgotten about her until a few years ago when I was in New York at a performance by Penn & Teller. During the intermission there was an ethereal music playing. I asked Penn Gillette who it was and he said Yma Sumac. I smiled and the strange music of my childhood came back to me.
