Each year Dallas County Dental Society honors outstanding members with awards to recognize those exemplary dentists who represent the high standards of DCDS. Awards are presented at the annual Installation Dinner in May.

Dr. Vogel was born and raised in Dallas, and it was here that his journey into dentistry was shaped early on by volunteer work at the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic, where he witnessed the life-changing impact of dental care for individuals living with HIV. It was a formative experience that ignited his passion for using dentistry as a means to positively transform lives
Dr. Vogel graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas and went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, where he ranked in the top 10 of his class. After graduation he returned to Dallas, and, in 2022, he became the owner of Knox Dental in 2022.

He serves on the board of directors for Resource Center, volunteers at Dental Health Arlington and has organized dental mission trips to Jamaica to provide care to underserved populations. He actively contributes to the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association and Dallas County Dental Society.

Bobrow Trust continues donations

Tony Bobrow, longtime Hidden Door owner and Bobrow Trust founder

By the end of this year, the trust will have donated nearly $3 million over 7 years

From Staff Reports

The Anthony Bobrow Trust this week continued its charitable efforts, donated funds to several local organizations serving the HIV/AIDS and KGBTQ communities. Those agencies receiving funds this week from the Bobrow Trust were AIN, ASD — A Home for Life, Legacy Cares, Taste of Hope, The Family Place and Oak Lawn Band.

Created by Tony Bobrow, longtime owner of the Hidden Door, the trust became active following Bobrow’s death in early 2018. By the end of that year, the Bobrow Trust had contributed more than $300,000 to a half-dozen nonprofits dedicated to serving the LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS communities in Dallas.

“In 2023 and 2024, we contributed over $750,000,” noted Harvey Meissner, president and general manager of the Hidden Door and trustee for the Bobrow Trust. “This brings our total to well over $1 million in the last three years.

“Additionally,” he continued, “the Anthony Bobrow Trust and the Hidden Door will make further contributions throughout the year, donations which we expect to be around another $100,000.

“Given the significant reductions in federal and state funding, the demands on these organizations are huge,” Meissner said. “The services and support they offer are literally life-saving in some instances, and the number of those seeking assistance is rising almost daily.”

Even though the COVID epidemic in 2020 forced the bar to shut down for more than a year, “it is our patrons at the Hidden Door and Tony’s astute investments that will bring us to just shy of $3 million” total in donations by the end of this year.
