Last summer, we tracked the filming of Israel Luna’s locally-produced “transploitation” action comedy, Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives!, without knowing exactly what would become of the finished product. Well, now we know. Only eight months later, Luna’s pic has been selected to appear in the Tribeca Film Festival — not a gay-only festival, mind you, but Robert DeNiro’s high-profile Gotham fortnight of film. Yeah, that Tribeca Film Festival. It’s big news.
Ticked-Off, which Luna shot largely with local talent (including Jenna Skyy, pictured) at locales like Station 4, is headed for New York with as many castmembers as he can wrangle for his highest-profile world premiere yet. And Luna says it’s the first film ever to screen at Tribeca with actual transgender persons in principal roles playing transgender characters.
The festival runs April 21 through May 2.
Israel is so hot in every sense of the word.
Wow! Big fat congrats to the Luna Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Almost as funny as the real thing, eh?
I don’t think the film maker has any idea of how much this film, as trans people become more aware of it, is going to create a sh** storm in the trans community that will spill over into the LGBT community.
The making and showing of this film is likely going to generate controversy that will likely help it sell tickets, but will likely pit members of subcommunites in the LGBT community at a time when many are working to build community between the communities.
I don’t see anything to cheer in this film being chosen to be shown at Tribeca.
This film should never have made it out of the editing room. Portrayal of transwomen only as prostitutes or striptease dancers with garish make-up & dressed as like hookers is not how I want my sisters & I portrayed. You do nothing to honor Angie Zapata or the Jorge Steven Lopez with this movie.
Using their deaths & the hate mongering tranny bashing as fodder for comedy is repulsive.
Wow.
So every movie made should follow certain guidelines and only be made in certain ways to shed light on certain types of people in a certain way.
CENSORSHIP.
While we are at it, let’s have a book burning, or pile up some records and burn those.
GEEZ.
