Marcus and Joni Lamb, co-founders of North Texas-based Daystar, America’s second-largest Christian TV network, announced Tuesday on the air that Marcus Lamb cheated on his wife a few years ago. In admitting Marcus Lamb’s marital infidelity, the Lambs also alleged an extortion attempt, saying someone has demanded $7.5 million of “God’s money” to keep the scandal out of the media.
None of this is terribly shocking, and you may be wondering why we’re even bothering to repeat it on this LGBT blog. Well, for one thing it’s yet another example of religious hypocrisy, and for another some leading anti-gay figures, including Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church of Dallas, appear on Daystar. But what really caught our attention was the following quote from one of the couple’s marriage counselors, Fred Kendall, who reportedly provided some of the few details about the affair:
“He had one inappropriate period of misbehavior with one person, and it wasn’t a man. It wasn’t a transvestite. It was with a woman,” Kendall said.
We have absolutely no idea why Kendall felt compelled to point out that the affair wasn’t with a man or a transvestite — as if this somehow makes it any better — but we’d like to point out that his statement leaves open the possibility that the affair was with a transsexual woman.
OK, that’s all, carry on now.
John, we aren’t in England. Over here, the spelling is transsexual, not transexual!!! LOL
I don’t think it was God’s money anyone wanted. It was money from those creeps Marcus and Joni that someone wanted.
I am a Christian and I was proud of the honesty of both Joannie and Marcus. It encouraged me to know that they are just human. Human beings make mistakes. I would like to congradulate them for the award they just won. I am praying for them. God loves them.
@Tori: Fixed, thanks.
I am proud of them. I don’t see it as hypocrisy. It is honesty. Thank God there is still people that are real and don’t cover up their mistakes and frailties. The bottom line is they got up after a fall. Just as the scripture has said. A righteous man may fall seven times but rises again every time. No one is perfect but God alone; man only live by Grace alone.
If there are any perfect people in this world they are not visible to us yet. It is sad that this man committed a sin in the sight of his God and broke his covenant of fidelity to his wife and sinned against her. There is a specific statement by Christ which should cause us all to be very careful in how we talk about the people who fail in their life and sin even while trying to live a life pleasing to God and in obedience to the Bible. In the New Testament of the King James Bible it states in Matthew 7:1 that Jesus said: “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” The Good News Bible states it like this: ” Do not judge others ,so that God will not judge you.” Another admonition is very important : Matt 6:15: ” For if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. KJVersion. Then the Good News version says: Matt 6:15 ” But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done.” It is heart rending whenever anyone violates God’s laws or their marriage vows. Too many suffer and only forgiveness from God and hopefully, the people, can begin to restore a person and save a marriage. Those who want to hate and will not forgive are very much in need of an experience with God so that their own lives may not be troubled and end up in despair.
It is interesting that your being a Christian gives you the knowledge that “God loves them” yet my Christian brother, who is an adulterer, like Marcus, tells me that God does NOT love me because i am a transsexual. I really love the way some Christians pick and choose who to judge and who to turn a blind eye too. Seems to me that breaking a ten commandment trumps surgical intervention for a birth condition. If the surgery was to correct conjoined twins, or blindness, people don’t have problems with it. BTW, I am a Christian who is very soured on organized Christianity and I believe that God loves ALL of his children. I guess the question I have is, IF Markus came out as being LGB or T, would his followers still think that he is loved by God.
Everyone falls, we are all human, nobody is perfect. All throughout the bible are stories of God’s people falling. I would just pray christian leaders would follow the footsteps of Billy Graham when it came to being in a ministry. He would never talk or be alone with a child or woman without someone with him to keep him accountable. Unfortately there is always talk when someone falls, but when someone is doing good you never hear about it…. Typical media.
I, too, believe God loves all of his children. But I believe the Word of God says adultry, homosexuals, and transsexuals are all sinners. But I also believe God forgives those who repent of their sins and seek to not repeat them. Therefore, I believe Christians will stand in heaven, side by side, with those who have committed adultry, homosexuals, and transsexuals, that have confessed their sins to God and received his forgiveness.
Why is this worth reporting? Really? A “bible thumper” has an affair? Wow! I haven’t heard this story before. It may or may not have been a 100% heterosexual affair? Double wow! I haven’t heard that either. If you have money to give someone give it to someone who is hungry or homeless who isn’t going to tell you what you should and/or should not do!
the devil tempts also men of god im sorry to hear that but god is the judge and im not gonna judge cause its not my business and thats how everyone should feel the same way
I wish they had paid the money so we wouldn’t have to hear of this crap. Yes, we are to hate the sin, love the person, yes, we have a real enemy, BUT the idea of these so-called ministers stalking about behind the scens doing all this makes me sick. What about the Lord and honoring the ministry positions these people are allowed to fill? I guess slandering the Name of the Lord to every nation of the world is not strong enough motivation to stop these jokers. The devil made him do it doesn’t cut it folks. I want to throw up.
Just as my Lord said ” those of you with out sin can cast the first stone”.
Tori hit it right on point. The real value of this story is not in the fact that yet another “man of god” has strayed from his marital commitments, but that its okay with the believers. These “men of god” condemn loving relationships between two men, or two women regularly from their pulpits, yet when they themselves commit a real sin, its okay – they’re believers. As long as you’re a believer – you can do anything – its okay – you’re automatically forgiven. Or as some of these “men of god” preach – you’re “pre” forgiven. Your sins have been washed away – even before you did it!
It’s only news because it’s not ordinary for Christians to act like the world. Sinners stink all the time. Christians are just different. They’re clean and you’re not. Get over yourselves and accept Jesus before it’s too late.
You hypocrite snakes sure are quite. Are they having “church” at Metropolitan Community Church (of satan) tonight?
the people cheering on this very personal problem are the same ones who were alresdy against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Marcus and Joni Lamb are just people and if you put them on a pedestal thinking they were more than that maybe thats why you are so disappointed. Only Jesus Christ is perfect in his character. This couple needs prayer not judgement – don’t you know that the more you do for God the harder it is to dodge the arrows of sin. Trouble increases your faith – and if you are born of a woman your going to have some. These people need to be lifted up in prayer, can you confess your sin publically. You stop judging and forgive trespasser as you would like to be forgiven. All any of us can do is be the best we can. THIS WILL NOT CHANGE HOW I FEEL ABOUT GOD BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN HIM NOT jONI AND mARCUS lAMB – I am thankful for their ministry because I have been encouraged and blessed by some of the programs on daystar. Only God knows who heart is really for him.
I am a born again Christian and minister. This is going to be an interesting story, it’s going to progress and not just go away. It seems to me that they came out with their version of the story because of money. I really think they are handling the extortion situation with “some” honesty. (I don’t want all the details.) But, the fact remains, they are public figures and leaders in the church. I really don’t think their motives, in disclosing this, are completely pure. I mean, is $7.5 million of the money they have in operations better spent keeping this story from hurting the church? Or is it better to keep the money in their operations and allow another black mark on the church. It does seem with Joni, as with Ted Haggard’s wife, the woman gets the short end of the stick trying to put on a happy face and keep the marriage together. Perhaps this is the very reason Benny Hinn’s wife didn’t stay married to him. It is hard to imagine he and Paula White weren’t involved at some level for some time. Their picture in the Italian hotel is worth a thousand(s) of words. When will these “leaders” realize the scale of damage they create when they put themselves in these situations???
Sooooo he Marcus Lamb was being HONEST….why does this article say it happened “a few years ago” wouldn’t “being honest” been talking about it THEN not when you are facing someone telling you they are going to take it to the media if you don’t pay them? Honest…..I see no honest….I see someone who wanted to hide his wrongs and yet still appear squeaky clean to continue to make $$…..what a shame.
I can’t believe you people are so naive as to be impressed by this hypocrites honesty. It was not honesty that drove him to confess his torrid affair it was his cheapness! He confessed because they were after his money and he knew it was about to blow up in the news so he was trying to get in front of it.
This man is a liar and a hypocrite. It’s a shame that he even has 7.5 million dollars (which he took from poor people by pretending to be an upright “man of God”).
This is not the work of the “devil” this is a horny old man who can’t keep his **** in his pants. Every week one of your famous men of God turns out to be a horny perverted hypocrite and yet all the have do is blame it on the devil and you people act like you’ve seen a miracle. Get a grip.
You mean to tell me that some people were trying to extort money out of the people who extort money out of other people ? Good! I love it. Its no different than what they do to people sitting in their homes. “if you want to be loved by an invisible man who lives in the sky, then send us your money.”. Religion is the biggest ponzi scam the world will ever see.
“Judge Not Lest You Be Judged” is the favorite verse to excuse bad behavior. The verse applies to judging people when you are committing the same sin that’s why Jesus continued with “remove the plank from your own eye …” If there is no judgment, with God’s word as the standard, then there would be no church discipline. And the Bible says that judgment will start with the House of God. God’s word says that adultery is abominable and we are called to confront those who are involved in sin, ESPECIALLY, those who are in the church. Every time their show comes on, I have to change the channel. There’s something about him that’s very disturbing to me, I can’t even look at him. They are word-of-faith ‘seed’ hustlers but you know, old ladies will still pull out their wallets for these two. Shame on him to not come forward, to go on with this sham of a lovey-dovey marriage on tv, until he got exposed – no, until it was going to cost them money.
Very sad…..God says do not commit adultery, if you love God OBEY. He always gives you a way out.
Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy but I have come to bring life in abundance to the full. Unfortunately, the darkness was allowed in.
Tori, don’t try to debate religious hypocrisy with xtians. It’s a scientific fact that predisposition to religion/skyfairyworship is the result of a defect in the brain.
Just try to tell them about the prohibitions against certain foods, and the prescriptions for proscriptions in their silly little book of fables, and they explode.
Every day, more people awaken to the fact that religion is just a ong running political power grab, that in the 21st century is also a great way to scam money from idiots.
I know Monte, thanks! I have lots of Christian friends who are not of the same mindset as these organized religion fanatics. I didn’t realize that the “affair” went on for SEVEN YEARS (according to the Star-Telegram). That’s a LOT of SIN! So, does each time they met for torrid sex (or he thought about the mistress while sleeping with his wife) count as a single count of breaking one of the ten commandments?
He may be a human and subject to making errors, but he is obviously someone who KNEW that he was breaking one of the ten worst sins…and he didn’t stop or reveal it until it was going to go public by someone else. He preaches to other humans to have them judge others that don’t fit into their interpretation of the Bible. The Bible does not say “Thou shalt not commit adultery UNLESS you are a minister or a self proclaimed Christian”. It’s pretty cut and dried on that one. SQUIRM BABY SQUIRM.
and I am so thankful that my salvation doesn’t hinge on people. and I am so thankful that I have a button on my remote that I can skip right over every ‘christian’ television station. Yes! I am a believer in the Lord Jesus.
Marcus has fallen down to level of sin similiar to David in the Bible, at least he hasn’t had a man killed for his foolish desires as David did. It is a well known fact that three things will bring a man down fast – pride . the love of money,or the desire for another man’s woman or wife. Men listen up! It’s easy! The answer is simple! No more scandals! No more divorce due to adultery! KEEP YOUR PANTS ON! Quit defiling the marriage bed!
In response to Ray: You couldn’t have said it better!
Thank U Lord Jesus, Amen Ray!
…they should check other TV preachers who at 64 years old still going out with girls barely 18 !
This year I had an affair with a married cop/Baptist Minister….I am not proud of it and we tried to end it but somehow kept coming back to each other. I was raised better than this and I certainly knew better…but the attraction was stronger than we were. Yes, sometimes you have to tell your heart no. And I know that God has forgiven us.
Bryan said it all!! Honesty isn’t done several years later when the heat is on and your empire is in jeapordy! These people are the worst kind, along with the likes of Paula ( Scarface ) White.
Some people “come clean” and confess because it’s the right thing to do —- others do it after they’ve been “caught” and threatened with exposure years later.
God loves all us of. No matter what our choice of sexual realtions may be. I believe He made man for woman and marriage for man and woman and I believe transexual, homosexual, adultry, and all sins of the sort or as horrible as child molestation, but God loves even the child molestor. He is the Great Creator, not one of us was created except by His beautiful and perfect hands. God gave us His Son Jesus, He offered us a Savior for our sins. I believe when we get to judgement day before Him, He will ask us what did we do with His Perfect Gift, His Son Jesus Christ. I am heart broker over Markus Lamb, but I forgive him as I know Christ has if he asked Him. I will have a terrible issue of trusting him for a while, but I do forgive. I too have committed many sins and I have repented and CHANGED from some, not all. My goal is perfection, I always have room for growth and plenty of it. As does everyone reading this message. If you can’t get Markus Lamb’s actions out of your mind, that’s okay, if you judge him and slander him, that’s not okay. He needs to be loved and forgiven. His punishment, and yes he will be punished greatly, but that’s up to God. We just need to trust in God and know that He was not shocked, He was devestated and hurt, and He will punish as He knows is best. I believe Markus is real, I believe He loves God, and I believe he has a calling on his life. God did not bless him in the way He has and did not have a plan for those of us that are hurt through this. He has us and Markus in His hands. He’s got our back. Just have faith and pray for those who got caught doing something so horrible, like we do at times, maybe just in a different way, but remember, Sin is not weighed. Sin is sin.
Marcus Lamb is WOLF in sheep’s clothing.
He really deserves everything coming to him.
May God judge him according to his works. It’s that simple. I do not believe he’s a true Believer. True Believers do not commit intentional transgressions like this man.
Someday when I walk the shore with Jesus Christ, I want to ask him: “Why Lord did you put trailer-park trash like Marcus Lamb in positions of power to defame you? Why?”
I don’t know the answer. I leave it in the Lord’s hands.
I’m sad this thing happened to the ministry…..All have sinned and come short of the glory of God the Bible says….The thing that gets me….is the Bible says to forsake not yourself in the assembling of yourselves together in the manner as some are….You SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON’T REALLY KNOW THEM THAT LABOR AMONG YOU AS THE BIBLE SAYS TO DO…. People send millions of dollars to tv evangelist ….and don’t know anything about them …but, the thirty minutes or one hour they spend in front of the tv…watching….YOU SHOULD BE SENDING YOUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS TO YOUR LOCAL CHURCH…AND YOU SHOULD BE GETTING FED SPIRITUALLY BY YOUR LOCAL PASTOR….WHOM YOU KNOW….AND THE ONE’S THAT KNOW YOU…..A man of God who loves Jesus and promotes Jesus Christ and the works done in the Bible and show us how to get to heaven…..We need Evangelist…..Pastors, Teachers, Prophets, Apostles ….as the Word of God tells us….However, we are and should be accountable to someone in authority ….that does not write our checks out…OR GIVE US A NICE BEAUTIFUL Daystar Platform to preach from….I feel sorry for the man of God because he compromised ….but, my heart breaks for his wife ….because she is anointed and dedicated to God …first of all….and her husband and family…..and to the church….She has to face this shame of her husband forever now….It’s like a death to her….whether you will ever hear her say it or not…..I do not want to cast stones at either of them…..MAYBE THIS WILL MAKE THE CHURCH WISE UP AND GET SETTLED IN THE LOCAL CHURCH AND BE ROOTED AND GROUNDED AS THE BIBLE HAS SET THINGS UP FOR US……BE ACCOUNTABLE PASTORS……SOMEONE IS WATCHING YOU…..EVEN IN YOUR OWN PULPIT….AND NO ONE CATCHES YOU….ONE DAY…SOMEONE WILL…..JESUS! AMEN!
LET’S PRAY FOR MARCUS & JONI AND THE CHILDREN THAT THEY WOULD NOT GO INTO REBELLION….FOR ALL THE HEARTACHES THEY WILL SUFFER….AND THEY ARE INNOCENT! XOXO’S
I’m amazed at the stupidity and hypocrisy of some of the commenters. Tori, the difference between you and Christians like your brother and Marcus is that they both admit adultery is wrong but you want to wear your perversion like a badge of honor and force people to join you in your pretense that you’re not perverted. You then have the audacity to present the idea that something is wrong with everyone who won’t approve your perversion. Give me a royal break and don’t pretend you’re so stupid.
You want to call Lamb’s and your brother’s adultery “sin,” but you want them to APPROVE your sick perverted pretense and you want us to pretend it is they who are the hypocrites AND NOT YOU! Sorry, dude. You’re sick, but not that sick. You’re mostly just perverted and self-willed. Confess your SIN and admit you have a PROBLEM and you might find your brother wanting to help you.
Like Dell said, God loves all the perverts and the adulterers and every weird and normal one among us (whatever one might think normal is) but He’s given us His Word and declared it to be true and told us to believe it. That doesn’t mean we’ll never sin, but He tells us to confess our sins. You confess your brother’s sin and deny that yours is really sin. DUH. I’ll say it again — you’re not that stupid, so quit pretending and quit pretending that it’s reasonable for us to agree with you.
For brevity’s sake I didn’t mention all you fruitcakes that approved “Tori’s” idiocy but added this because though I knew you’d hate me for my remarks to him, like him, you’d pretend that you too are not a sinner — it’s only those “evil religious phony hypocrites.” Look in the mirror and you’ll see the hypocrite… the one who judges the “phonies” and pretends that because you dishonor God, then you have no sin. That’s stupidity gone to seed. Your pretense simply means you’ll be very surprised on Judgment Day to find that God wasn’t kidding when He said “It’s easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of the law to fail.” You WILL be judged by God’s Word regardless of your pretense.
Hear a well-intentioned word of advice. You better start reading THE BOOK and find out that for which you’re accountable. Let me give you two hints that you MUST discover yourself : Firstly, if you’ll do what I’m suggesting (with an open heart), what you’ll find will be so much better than you ever dreamed, you’ll be criticizing the Christians even more, but this time for not telling you how good God is! Secondly, God’s not counting your sins against you.
Wow. If you’ll open the Word of God and and believe it and find those two truths and become convinced of them, you’ll quit hating “religious phonies” and help many of them find out that real Christianity is all about power and love and grace and mercy and peace.
Search “Dan Mohler Todd White” and watch and/or listen to everything by them that you can find and you’ll be stunned, surprised, taken aback and seriously challenged that you really have been deceived.
I’m telling you the truth.
God loves us all…he doesn’t love everything we do. We all fall down and Thats why he sent his only son.for us all.
I worked with a man who was an “ordained minister” (whatever that means). He was constantly being called to the phone at work. If he had his choice when hiring regular part-time workers, he would call the temp agencies that would send hot, young women and he would eat their presence up. He was tall and nice-looking. These young girls would be so flattered by his attention, that they would show up in high heels to do menial, go-nowhere work in a warehouse. He was married, had a new baby and would tell co-workers of his marital problems. His managerial skills were not good. Now, if you’re going to be a man of God, please set an example for the rest of us. I know, we’re all human and have weaknesses. But it’s hard to look up to a person when they’re so intent on feeding their own ego with attention from women other that the wife.
Julie, “ordained minster” means that a “recognized” Christian leader (meaning he [or an organization] was previously ordained and had an established ministry). Unfortunately, it really says nothing about a man’s character because different organizations have so many different standards, doctrines, etc.
However, your words are critical, which is understandable, but if you’re not free from sin (remember Jesus’ words, “let him who is without sin cast the first stone”), then, frankly, you’re playing the hypocrite. Now, if you are free from sin, you should have said something to the man, not to us or anyone else, unless after offering loving correction to him, he rejected your care, concern and admonition.
This is the primary reason for the Word of God. For each of us to find the parts that apply to us and obey them. Showing mercy to others results in God having mercy on us. Judging others results in God judging us. Jesus stated very clearly, “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy,” and “judgment shall be without mercy on him who has shown no mercy.”
God’s Word also tells us in Romans 2, “Woe to you, whoever you are who judge another, you condemn yourself, for you who judge do the same thing.”
Now, I know that wasn’t what you wanted to hear, but it was what you needed to hear. You identify with the man’s wife and that’s understandable, but it’s important for us to walk in the fear of God and part of that means being circumspect and examining our own hearts, attitudes and motives regarding others. The reason is simple. When we stand before God at the Judgment, we’re going to WANT mercy! Now is the time to consider that and adjust our thinking and our disposition towards others.
One thing that can help in this regard, I heard from someone years ago who was struggling with judgment and unforgiveness. He said that he started praying for the person he didn’t love. He then said, “you can’t pray long for someone you don’t love. You’ll either stop praying or you’ll start loving.” That stuck in my mind and I’ve remembered it when I found myself being critical towards someone and prayed for them and examined how I felt while praying for them, knowing that I needed to be honest with myself.
Honesty with self isn’t as easy as one might think. It’s amazing how easy it is for me to kid myself. I still do it.
Best regards.
Well, gorgeous green eyes…
We know a several things about you. We know that when the cop/preacher started hitting on you, instead of considering, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows, this he will also reap,” and picturing your husband in the cop/preacher’s shoes, and another gorgeous girl in your shoes (all this ten years in the future), you decided to flirt back. We also know you don’t fear God because He was right there and you fornicated right in front of Him, knowing that if this guy is really a Christian, you’re taking God’s man and seducing him. Your screen name reveals that you’re a player and like to get attention and play with fire and this time you got burned. How long did you think you could play on that slippery creek bank without falling in?
God’s forgiven you? Really? How do you know? Has repentance come? I think it’s repentance you should be talking about more than forgiveness. Repentance if the proof of forgiveness, or didn’t anyone ever tell you that?
God will forgive the vilest sinner. God is able to keep a truly born again Christian from falling into
adultery if they are truly saved and avoid temptations. The money I am amazed at how rich all
these TV preachers are and they say plant a seed and God will make you rich this is the reason they are rich so they say. God blesses all the just and the unjust. I have lived in this
world a long time – my parents were poor we worked on the farm hard work for all including my mother in the fields and they and others back then were some of the best Christians that ever lived and God blessed all back then with food few clothes and health. But God does not make a person
rich by planting seed (money) It seems like the TV preachers think that the only thing that is a sin is not planting a seed. I had wonderful happy parents no adultery no bad children no big homes no
fancy clothes just hard work and serving the Lord made us happy. Made a living by the sweat of the brow.
