The Collin County Democratic Party and the Allen Progressive Eagles student group are co-hosting an “ICE Out of Texas” peaceful community protest on Sunday, Feb. 1, from noon-2 p.m. on the public sidewalks in front of Watters Creek, 985 W Bethany Drive in Allen. Watters Creek is “a 52-acre, open-air, mixed-use development featuring more than 70 shops, restaurants and offices, known for its scenic creek-side setting,” according to Google.

The protest is “intended to be a peaceful, lawful and powerful demonstration of community solidarity,” organizers said, and, as such, they have instituted “a strict ‘no weapons’ policy for the event. Those participating in the protest “are encouraged to wear bright, colorful clothing and brimg handmade signs and water,” the press release noted

The protest is “The event is a direct response to recent fatal encounters involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota, which have sparked national outrage and fear,” organizers said in a press release announcing the protest. Organizers said they aim to “amplify a message of solidarity with affected communities across the country and call for accountability and humane immigration enforcement.”
Hana Fayed, leader of the Allen Progressive Eagles, said, “We are deeply upset by what we have been seeing nationally and feel compelled to take action. “A collaborative effort with the CCDP will amplify our message.

“More than anything,” Fayed added, “we want our voices to reach farther and to show that the community is united in calling out these actions.”
Organizers said the protest is organized in solidarity with victims including Renee Nicole Good and Alex Jeffery Pretti of Minnesota, and in response to growing concerns over ICE’s role and tactics both nationally and in North Texas communities.
Jeremy Sutka, chair of the Collin County Democratic Party, explained, “This is about standing in solidarity with people under siege and upholding our shared values of justice and compassion. When students show this kind of courageous leadership, it’s our duty to support and amplify their call for accountability and humanity.”
