About 30 student members of the Gay-Straight Alliance met in the library at Bryan Adams High School on Friday. Three speakers talked about the community resources available to them, and then took part in a question-answer session. Some students talked about the bullying they’ve endured and others asked how to untangle the religious confusion after they’ve been told they’re going to hell for being gay.

“When you say you’ve been told you’re going to hell, I feel like I’ve been stabbed in the heart,” said Nancy De Stefano, pastor of St. Stephen’s Methodist Church in Mesquite. “The God I know doesn’t hate anyone, and you’re not going to hell.”

The club has been meeting for eight years at Bryan Adams and is sponsored by Danielle Jones and Ronald Mart. In addition to De Stefano, Michael Cruz from Youth First and David Taffet from Dallas Voice also spoke to the group of students.
