IMG_8163Over the holidays, I was trapped at home during the rain and cold snap and wanting to find a way to warm up with minimal effort — so, no shopping. I wanted a cocktail made from the ingredients handy that was serve its function with a modicum of distraction and zero travel to the grocery. I came up with this little fruity-but-biting concoction, which I call Bite the Bullet. (The interplay of tang, sweetness and bite from the bourbon makes for a complex yet soothing taste.)
1.5 oz. orange juice
1 oz. pineapple juice
A few chunks of pineapple
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1.5 oz. Caliche Puerto Rican Rum
Bulleit rye bourbon
Making it: Pour fruit juices and a few pineapple chunks in a shaker and muddle; add ice and rum and shake like a British nanny. Strain into a cocktail glass. Top with a float (to taste) of bourbon.
