Florida has done such a good job of cracking down on illegal immigration that the state finds it has a shortage of people to work unskilled and low-paying jobs. In addition, the labor shortage is adding to inflation as employers are forced to pay higher wages.
Well, the state has a solution: Child labor.
The Florida Legislature is debating a law that would allow 14-year-olds to work overnight shifts. Currently, it is illegal for children that age to work between 11 p.m. and 6 :30 a.m. on school days. If passed, the new law will allow them to do so, according to CNN.
The Legislature already passed a law allowing 16- and 17-year olds who are homeschooled to work any hour of the day. Another new law being debated would end guaranteed meal breaks for those homeschooled workers.
There is no discussion about whether child laborers who get themselves fired will be flown to a prison in El Salvador.
