Earlier this year, I profiled Chase Brooks and his radio show Reckless After Dark. The show aired online via FishBowlRadioNetwork.com. Of the huge lineup of shows, his was the only LGBT one on the roster — until recently.
Brooks sent out a press release on Sunday that he was no longer with the station as either an employee and radio show host. I posted the release after the jump but called Brooks to see what was up and what his future plans are. While doing the show, he also worked as the network’s publicity person.
He told me he was let go from the station and the show was canceled. An apparent complaint about his release on Facebook, he said, led to the show’s cancellation.
“It was all pretty sudden,” he said.
He shopped different avenues and decided on Soundcloud, which isn’t a radio station, but an audio platform where he can now upload shows.
“At first, we looked around for other networks, but none really stood out to me,” he said. “I found Soundcloud on Facebook and I had been thinking about starting my own station from home. We can do this pretty much anywhere. I think it could be more intimate. I feel this is gonna be a better opportunity. Plus, people can listen whenever they want.”
The plan is to restart in August with a goal of having a new episode up every Thursday to keep the same day he had during his tenure at Fishbowl. And likely, the core cast will stay in tact. He just revamped RAD‘s cast adding Ticked Off Trannies actor Krystal Summers and new A-lister James Doyle (who may or may not return due to filming). Original member Cat Michaels has stayed on board.
“I do feel optimistic about it. I think everything happens for a reason, even the whole Fishbowl incident,” he said. “We’re temp off the air but I just think that something better is out there. I guess Fishbowl wasn’t big enough to hold us.”
HIT LGBT RADIO SHOW “RECKLESS AFTER DARK” ANNOUNCES ITS NEXT MOVE
After a sudden departing from broadcasting on FishBowl Radio Network, the hit LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) radio show, “Reckless after Dark,” is announcing its next move. Beginning in August, the show will be back with more new, exciting, and “reckless” shows on SoundCloud, the world’s largest audio sharing website.
This will be an interesting turn for the show as it will no longer be live (for the time being). However, the advantage is that fans will be able to listen to the show at any time of the day, any day of the week. When there is only one broadcast, many people are unable to listen to work, not being around a computer, and miss their one chance to listen in to hilarious chat, segments, and interviews with celebrities such as Margaret Cho, Buck Angel, Judy Shepard, and many more. Fans will also be able to listen on the computer and through their iPhone, Android Phone, or any other device that is able to download the free SoundCloud application and are able to share the show on Facebook, Twitter, and email.
“Reckless after Dark” was the only gay-themed show on FishBowl Radio Network and received some of the network’s highest ratings and press. The cast includes published author and host Chase Brooks, the purrfect Cat Michaels, James Doyle from the upcoming Logo series “The A-List: Dallas,” and the star of the campy-slasher-flick “Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives” and member of Station 4’s Rose Room cast Krystal Summers.
Until new episodes begin to go online, previous episodes will be loaded onto SoundCloud weekly for listening pleasure. To listen, go to www.soundcloud.com/recklessafterdark and sign up for a free account.
The show is currently seeking sponsorships and advertising for new episodes. For more information on upcoming episodes, please visit the show’s website at www.recklessafterdark.com.
Yayayayayayayay!! I had 2 work for a few weeks and I guessed I missed some shows. Listened last week and it was some other show. So glad these guys are comin back on air. they were friggin hilarious…….that station is nohting but a bunch of boring shows that sound the same. RAD was the only show that realy stood out for me && seemed to be the only show gettin press and good guests anyway. from what i have heard the owner of the network is just a washed up has-been who couldnt get a real radio job anymore…..ha!
the show is off to bigger and better things!
I stopped listening to this show when he “reamped” it and added Krystal and James to the cast. For someone who has always claimed to be a “advocate” for the community, he proved himself wrong by adding James Doyle to the cast. “The A-List: Dallas” has already caused so much drama and hurt to people in Dallas that it just proved that he is just a sell-out and was seeking camera time.
As a former show host on FishBowl Radio Network, that does NOT surprise me that this happened. From what I concluded, Sammi (the owner) does not want to feel threatened by fame. I was still there when Chase started as an employee (not just the show host) and I thought he did a great job in marketing what little he could for a dinky online station. She expects people to turn water into wine and kiss her ass. He honestly did have one of the best shows on there because each week was consistent, yet diverse, and he always got the best guests and most press (thanks to the Voice). He just proved that, employee or not, he was made for the business and she couldn’t handle it. That place is full of unprofessionalism and seemed to be just a giant scam. Chase made the best of it and I’m proud of him and support him to this day.
i like his attitude about it
that show is just trashy anyways…..nothing but a bunch of queens who sound drunk and talk about sex the whole time. i read chase’s book too after i first read about him here earlier this year — TRASH. Talking about safe sex is one thing but when its about sex toys, porn star guests, etc, i just find it a HUGE turn-off…. Chase should know that he is a public figure for the community and should laed the way by being worthy of respect. He has a responsibility to do that. And by him adding krystal and james, I agree with Jay…its just for the cameras because those two are hardly worthy of respect either…
@Jay and @Erik M, I have to disagree with you. Yes, he hosts a LGBT show but it doesn’t mean that he HAS to follow an approved format and only say and do certain things on air. He’s a shock jock – always has been and has never denied it. Straight people have their shock jocks and the LGBT community deserves the right to have some too, without apologizing for it. You may not like the show but, you don’t have to listen to it, then. I have listened to the show when I can and have always found it to be hilarious, sexy, and always a good-time.
