Madonna turns 52 today. We’d be remiss not to acknowledge the Queen of Pop’s birthday. I wonder if it’s even an official gay holiday somewhere. We came up with this playlist of Madonna tunes to take some to celebrate. And of course, have a little fun with lists.
11. Chris started us off with a lesser hit from American Life, but perhaps the best song of the bunch from that album. “Love Profusion” was released as a single but best known as the theme for Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise fragrance.

10. Erik immediately named “Superpop” as his fave Madonna song that wasn’t a bigger hit. All the better. This was an unreleased song intended as a track on Confessions on a Dance Floor but nixed as an exclusive download for fan club members only. This says her cocky lyrics might have rubbed fans the wrong way.
9. David picked “Like a Virgin” as his favorite because he says “it describes him.” And then we laughed. At him.

8. New employee Mandy is one of two women in the office full time, so she couldn’t have been more appropriate picking “What It Feels Like For a Girl.” That is, if she means she feels like driving her car recklessly into people like the video — or in her case, a Vespa.

7. Gary dug deep to list “Pretender” from her Like a Virgin album. Either that or he panicked when I pressured him for a song and this is all he came up with. Either way, a good selection.
6. I have to go with the often overlooked “Spotlight” from You Can Dance. Not only did this track open the ideal remix album, it was also the perfect beat for my high school drill team’s high kick routine. Hey, some things stick with you.
5. Terry had good reason for his pick of “Like a Prayer.” He said, “I spent my youth listening to Christian music. It has haunted my in my adulthood. Sigh. We all have a cross to bear!” That couldn’t be topped.

4. Mandy snuck another one. She won’t admit to her Madonna-mania despite listing all her songs in making her decision. But she did throw in this for good measure.
3. Tammye went vintage with Madge’s first real ballad, “Crazy for You.” After that hit, she seemed to stay away from lovey-dovey ballads up until “Take a Bow.”
2. Unless you count her Dick Tracy songs, which I don’t because those were Sondheim songs. Arnold picked “Sooner or Later” from the film which went on to win the Academy Award. This was also the year she showed up at the Oscars with Michael Jackson as her date.

1. Chance went with modern Madonna going with a new track from her greatest hits collection from last year. “Revolver” didn’t get the attention that “Celebration” did, but it was a much better song.
