Hello beautiful people. I hope that you all are having a fucking fabulous day.
I will be doing a lot of traveling for drag in the coming months. As I write this, I am getting ready to leave for Austin to participate in Austin’s Pride Parade. I will be driving down, so not too much stress as far as packing to make sure I have everything a drag queen will need. I can carry as much or as little as I want.
I, of course, will over-pack and take too much stuff that I won’t use. But I find some kind of sick comfort in knowing it is there if I need it.
I will take extra shoes, costumes, earrings and wigs just in case I change my mind on what I wanna wear or — God forbid — a zipper busts or a seam rips and I can’t wear what I originally wanted to wear.
I’m like a doomsday prepper but with drag.
Then in September, I will be traveling with The Ryot Tour. I am super excited and a little nervous. It’s such a cool opportunity.
It’s gonna have a bunch of amazing entertainers, many who will be singing live. Adore Delano, Willam, Kylie Sonique Love, Coco Montrese, Discord Adams and Sasha Allen — all hosted by MEEEE!
Get your tickets and see what cities we are going to at RYOTTOUR.com.
(Shameless plug! I can’t help it, I’m excited.)
Plus it is for a great cause, because a portion of ticket sales from all RYOT TOUR productions benefits Purple Mountain Recovery. They help fund addiction recovery, mental health and many community outreach initiatives. So, you won’t feel any guilt about going to the show and spending your hard earned cash.
You are helping people by going to the show. So, technically, if you don’t go, you are a horrible person. Don’t be a horrible person!
(Okay, I’ll stop now.)
Traveling with drag when you fly is a completely different beast compared to driving with drag. When I am flying, I can only take what I know I will absolutely be using. I gotta figure out how to fold or store my big ass wigs. Y’all know I don’t wear little hair. I need a giant wig to make me look like a tiny woman.
(Shut up and let me believe the lies I tell myself.)
How much shit can I fit into a carry-on? You would be surprised. Traveling with drag has made me so freakin’ good at Tetris.
A few months ago, I flew to New York for a quick little overnight gig. Between my carry-on, a backpack and one checked in suitcase, I had enough drag for one whole outfit … and a back-up ho dress for emergencies.
My damn pads take up half of the checked in suitcase! And that’s after I squish them down to a normal size!
But my ass ain’t normal. I got a big ol’ ass. James ain’t got no ass, so Cassie has to make up for it by having a Kardashian-before-the-diet bootie. I will be horrified if I show up to the first show in Seattle with a flat ass. I refuse to be that basic of a white bitch.
My wigs are heavy as fuck, too. I hope I can find a way to Tetris those bitches in some way that doesn’t fuck up their wig lines or — worse — make them flat. Flat hair AND a flat ass?
My worst nightmare!
I have literally had dreams that I am in a big show, and the emcee is about to introduce me, and I look in the mirror and haven’t even started my makeup. I have no pads on, and my wig is still in the box and not styled. I wake up in a panic with my heart racing.
Those dreams — well, nightmares — freak me out as much as the dreams where I can fly, but I can only fly as long as I am flapping my arms. Why the fuck can’t I fly like Superman?!
Why do I have to flap my arms like an idiot to stay airborne in my dreams, and why are my arms sore when I wake up?! Embarrassing!
So, wish me luck and safe travels on my adventures. I think everything is going to be fabulous. Hopefully, none of my flights will be on those little planes. Even though I don’t think I’m famous enough to die on one of those, I probably shouldn’t take any chances.
Remember to always love more, bitch less and be fabulous! XOXO, Cassie Nova
