Two openly gay candidates could earn enough votes to make it into the runoff in two crowded Dallas County races.

In the justice of the peace precinct 5, place 1 seat, openly gay candidate Sara Martinez led after early voting with 29 percent of the vote.

Other out candidate John McCall Jr. brought in 16 percent of the vote, coming in fourth after Melissa Bellan with 27 percent, Luis Sepulveda with 21 percent and Robert Carrillo Jr. with 7 percent.

In statewide races, state Sen. Wendy Davis currently has 70 percent of the early voting results without all precincts reporting, but is expected to win the party’s gubernatorial bid easily. Attorney General Greg Abbot has 92 percent of the votes for the Republican nomination.

In the crowded Democratic bid for U.S. Senate, Davis-endorsed David Alameel received 53 percent of the vote, with Kesha Rogers bringing in 22 percent and Maxey Scherr receiving 13 percent as the top three vote-getters. Harry Kim received 9 percent and Michael Fjetland received 4 percent.
