Bryan’s House, which was founded to care for young children living with HIV, is out of business.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the non-profit has donated its building in the Medical District to Metrocare.

When Bryan’s House was founded in 1988, its building was a block from Resource Center’s Reagan and Brown facility. That was controversial at the time because zoning prevented multiple non-profits from being located so close to each other in a residential neighborhood. The Dallas City Council issued a waiver mostly because no one, at the time, wanted AIDS organizations to be located near them.

As ways to prevent mothers from passing HIV to their children during childbirth were perfected, the number of children born with HIV dropped to almost zero. So Bryan’s House expanded its mission, moved to a new facility closer to Children’s Health and Amelia Court and began caring for children with special needs.
