Nicholas Even, a Harvard-trained attorney with extensive ties to North Texas’ artistic community, has just been named the new managing director of WaterTower Theatre.
Even has been a respected attorney for 30 years, both in New York and as a partner at Haynes & Boone — a career that includes serving as legal counsel for arts organizations, including the Dallas Opera. But Even is probably most familiar to local audiences as a long-standing patron and volunteer for the DO, Second Thought Theatre and especially WaterTower, where he has served as board president.
He also was a major force behind developing the original musical Creep, written and composed by Donald Fowler and produced by the theater in 2015.
“Nick has been an amazing supporter of me as an artist, and a huge supporter of Dallas artists in general,” Fowler said. “He is an exciting addition to WTT because he not only has wonderful ideas but has the skills to execute them. He’s a really dynamic choice and I’m thrilled to see what he will do.”
“I believe theater can be a powerful and transformative medium and that WaterTower has an integral role to play,” Even said.
Even replaces Greg Patterson, who announced that he was stepping down from the role earlier this month. He had been with WTT for nearly a decade. Patterson’s official last day will be Friday; Even will step in formally on Monday.
