For 26 years now, DIFFA Dallas has been making the holidays brighter with its annual Wreath Collection, auctioning off custom-made, one-of-a-kind holiday wreaths created by local designers and celebrities to benefit HIV/AIDS service organizations in North Texas. This year’s event takes place Thursday, Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m. in the Grand Pavilion at Dallas Trade Mart, 2100 Stemmons Freeway. This year’s Wreath Collection is sponsored by Southwest Funding, Diageo, Bank of America, NealeJones.com and Roman Smith and will also feature cocktails and music from DJ Jen Miller. Legacy Cares (formerly Legacy Counseling) presents “Shine: Grace Project National Conference for Women Living With HIV”, beginning Friday, Nov. 12, at the West Park Central Hotel, 12720 Merit Drive in Dallas. The Grace Project is dedicated to providing access, information and support to women living with HIV/AIDS, and this year’s conference will focus on enlightenment and education. Get Gritty with it
The John Wayne Grit Trail Run, a fundraiser for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, offers you a chance to run or walk a 5K route through the Fort Worth Stockyards and the Trinity Trail along with Cowgirl Hall of Fame member Pam Minick, who is grand marshal for the event. Everybody who participates gets a gift, along with a chance to raise money for research, education and more regarding cancer. Get extravagant on the lake
Carmella DuBuque and Garlow’s in Gun Barrel City — down south on Cedar Creek Lake — once again host Carmella’s Cabaret, a monthly drag extravaganza raising money for the Miss Gay Texas State Pageant System, a pageant system focused on charitable causes, and the Greg Dollgener Memorial AIDS Fund. It all starts at 8 p.m., with a $20 cover for those ages 18-20, and a $10 cover for those 21 and older. Entertainer tips, proceeds from auction/raffle items and a portion of the door fee will be donated.

Green energy — a Log Cabin perspective
