Award-winning Australian entertainer Jace Pearson, best known as the drag persona LayDee KinMee, has released “Here I Am,” described as an uplifting anthem about authenticity, resilience and the courage to stop waiting for permission to be yourself.
For more than a decade, KinMee has built her international career through music, theater, television and live performance, earning multiple awards and becoming one of Australia’s top drag entertainers. The larger public first discovered KinMee through her performance on Australia’s Got Talent.
Co-written with acclaimed Australian songwriters Bec Caruana and Michael Carpenter, the single reflects KinMee’s own journey of vulnerability and creative freedom.
“One of my favorite things about ‘Here I Am’ is that everyone who wrote it interpreted it differently,” KinMee said in a press release. “That makes it a song people can truly make their own. At its heart, it’s about finding your light and finally stepping forward.”
The song was born during the trio’s very first writing session together.
“Bec brought Michael and me together to write for the first time,” she stated. “‘Here I Am’ was already the title, and we each brought our own ideas about what those words meant until they became one story.”
Alongside the single’s release, KinMee debuted her new video for “Here I Am.”
For Kinmee, this song is about transforming her own revelations of being held back into an anthem for anyone standing on the edge of a new chapter. From chasing a dream to changing careers, KinMee extends her message of finding the courage to believe in
yourself through this track.
KinMee said in the release, “Writing this song felt like an awakening. I’d been playing life pretty safely, and it reminded me that sometimes you have to step into the unknown to discover what’s possible.”
