ASD–A Home for Life celebrated Founders Day on Thursday, April 23 with awards and a cookout in the courtyard in its Revlon apartments. The agency is marking 39 years since its founding in 1987 by Michael Merdian and Daryl Moore.

There was a lot to celebrate. ASD’s new employment program has been so successful that most of the certificate winners couldn’t attend — they were at work. And the new children’s program for children of residents celebrated a new, fun and safe playground as well as a new computer room in Spencer.

Also, work renovating a new property on 75 at Walnut Hill is turning a former nursing facility into studio and one bedroom apartments for more than 60 people. And just yesterday, the city gave ASD the go-ahead to begin work on the former Braniff flight attendant school building on Wycliff at the Tollway in Oak Lawn.

Lots of awards were handed out including one to Dallas Voice. Publisher Leo Cusimano accepted the award for which we’re humbly grateful.

CEO Traswell Livingston announced a new $20 million capital campaign to finish current projects and fund additional affordable housing for the community.
