‘Waiting for Guffman’ screens Sept. 17, just in time for Dallas Pride weekend.
The AT&T Performing Arts Center and the Dallas Film Society introduce a series of Sunset Screenings at Annette Strauss Artists Square alongside the Winspear Opera House, showing movies for free monthly all summer. It starts this Saturday.
Five hundred reserved seats are available with your RSVP, with lawn seating (blankets only; no portable chairs allowed) available as well. Coolers and strollers are not permitted, but concessions will be available.
The schedule is below:
• June 18 (8:45 p.m.) — Moulin Rouge. Baz Luhrmann’s very gay movie musical pastiche, with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.
• July 16 (8:30 p.m.) — Amadeus. The Oscar winner about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (gay actor Tom Hulce) and his rivalry with court composer Salieri (Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham).
• Aug. 20 (8:30 p.m.) — Exit Through the Gift Shop. An Oscar-nominated documentary from street artist Banksy.
• Sept. 17 (7:30 p.m.) — Waiting for Guffman. Just in time for Pride Weekend, the Christopher Guest mockumentary about a closeted gay man trying to bring theater to a small town is hilarious silliness.
• Oct. 15 (7 p.m. ) — Almost Famous. Cameron Crowe won an Oscar for his screenplay, based on his own teenaged years, about a journalist on the road with a rock band in the 1970s. Look for the outing scene on an airplane.
• Nov. 19 (7 p.m.) — Walk the Line. Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar as June Carter in the biopic of Johnny Cash (Joaquin Phoenix).
