Military experts today expressed concern about Marine Commandant General James Conway’s remarks that he would build new quarters to separate gay and straight troops. Many said his plans could cause the very problems he seeks to prevent. Gen. Conway, who previously expressed resistance to lifting the ban on openly gay service, offered his remarks yesterday in an interview with Military.com. He said that “I would not ask our Marines to live with someone who is homosexual if we can possibly avoid it. And to me that means we have to build BEQs [bachelor enlisted quarters] and have single rooms.”

Sometimes it seems like gay-bashing is the only thing heterosexuals agree on these days.

What’s most infuriating about idiots like Conway is that he presupposes Marines are not ALREADY serving with gay servicemembers. They are. Funny how the people most concerned about “unit morale” are the ones who haven’t been in a unit, or seen combat, or been a working grunt since Watergate. I imagine many of them would be surprised to find out colleges have co-ed dorms and black people don’t have to sit at separate lunch counters — even in the south.
What American CIVILIANS are ‘forced’ to room with/live with gays, on penalty of being punished if they don’t agree? Why should the Marine Corps – or any other military branch – be an exception?

The Commandant & Sgt Major of the MC have been holding their own pow wow’s with the troops & has based his opinions on the feedback. The troops don’t want homosexuals openly in the MC. They will not be accepted. For some reason they feel the investigations resulting from homosexuals hitting concrete from 3rd story barracks landings will undermine unit cohesion.
Reason why the activist oppose the DoD study because they know the propaganda they’ve been heaping is about to get blown away. Conservatives need to start a national call to boycot military recruiting. Lets see how many Libs are willing to become IED bait trigger pullers.
Apparently, the Commandant Gen. would not have required Caucasian soldiers to co-habitate with African Americans back when the military was desegregated. Apparently, he also believes that American Marines are less capable than Canadian or Israeli servicemen.

Does anyone else find it somewhat hilarious — aside from the implied threat of throwing someone three floors to their death or serious injury — that writers whom appear to be straight members of the military are reading a gay Web site? Of course, we already know that the DFW Ku Klux Klan News follows Instant Tea so I guess it only makes sense.
Your military boy is a closet case, David. I mean…why else would he be here? To report what’s being said to his commanding officers? Please. Reminds me of a “straight” guy I met in a gay bar some years ago. “I’m not gay, I just come here because I like the club.” Yeah, right…and the women don’t harass him there. Big plus if you ask me. As for the head of the Marine Corps thinking gays have cooties, well…at least we now know where *HE* got them. And if these uneducated marines don’t want to be around gays, perhaps they should consider moving to another planet.
I was in the military and I fought in the gulf war, with other gays and lesbians, and TRUST ME, we would have LOVED to have had our own quarters, maybe a gay tent? That would be where the party would be.
IN FACT, when my unit went to war, the lesbians DID have their own tent, and I hung out there a lot.
And one lesbian who was over supply had her own ‘container’ made into her quarters, and that is where we would drink home-made wine and hang out sometimes at night, sometimes laying in the sun during the day in her little ‘courtyard’.
Gays and lesbians are already in the military, have been for a long time, people know it, and to make a fuss of how people are going to be quartered is just politics. Bad politics using gays as the bad guys (again).
