On Monday we told you how several anti-gay candidates are running for El Paso City Council in the wake of the ongoing battle over domestic partner benefits for municipal workers.
Well, one of those anti-gay candidates, Malcolm McGregor III, told ABC 7 he believes the tsunami and earthquake in Japan were a curse from God.
“Japan had built tsunami walls along their coasts but this tsunami was bigger than that. No matter what you say, they either weren’t blessed with protection or they were cursed with an earthquake,” McGregor said. “God did say, Christ did say that earthquakes would increase in the last days and that’s what we’re seeing.”
McGregor is part of the group El Pasoans for Traditional Family Values, which sponsored a successful ballot initiative to rescind DP benefits in November, after the benefits were approved by the City Council. McGregor is also a defendant in the pending federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the ballot initiative.

I mentioned to my husband that some bigoted idiot was sure to blame this horrible natural disaster on the “gays”. Sure enough…
Maybe the Japanese Government can charge them with a crime and request their extradition. Ultimately, they wouldn’t likely be extradited, but they can at least be saddled with legal fees.
Where did Christ mention earthquakes?
While he is correct in stating that the Bible speaks of earthquakes an other such things increasing in end times, it also says in the Bible , Judge not yet ye be judged. Sometimes the so called self proclaimed “Christians” of the day really dont read the whole book to understand it fully. Most of these kind of people instead rely on what others tell them the Bible says an what it means. This is why Christianity gets a bum rap because of misinformed wanna be disciples such as himself. Also if he’s so convinced the Japanese either weren’t blessed with protection from earthquakes. or cursed with one, I’d like him to tell me why in 2005 deep southern Bible belt areas along the Gulf were cursed with Katrina? What exactly were we being punished for? Lets just assume as we all should that it was a natural event as was this Earthquake an all its aftermath and leave it at that.
Malcom McGregor III has a gay brother who is out and proud and a very sweet guy. Malcolm is running for city council on an anti-gay agenda for a district in which he doesn’t live. He actually lives in a New Mexico home handed down to him by his wealthy deceased father. First class a*shat.
I live in San Antonio and my wife is from Japan. I spent 14 years of my Naval career in Japan. It is a wonderful country with kind generous people and a beautiful culture. Oh and by the way there are hundreds of thousands of devout Christians in Japan. I found this statement to absurd and insensitive. I would love an opportunity to share my views with this meathead directly and to insure that his lowly political aspirations are completely undermined. I hope his local voters are smart enough to realize how stupid this man is.
i am yet only sixteen years old, and being at a young age am able to see a perfect example of ignorance and lack of logical explanation torward the predicament that has occured in japan. i myself am i proud homosexual, and i for one am pretty sure that my and many other people’s sexual orientation is the cause for the eathquake and stunami.
