The third annual AFI Film Festival starts at the end of this month, and organizers have released the full list of movies screening during the 8-day event. There are many program categories, including local films, documentaries, a family friendly series and others… but no gay-themed films. That’s cool — it’s what we have Out Takes and Q Cinema for — but it’s difficult to find much gay content at all.
Granted, many of the 173 films have yet to find distribution and little is known about them, so maybe there’s more gay content than we can discern now, but with nearly 200 movies selected, there should be SOME gay stuff, right? (Last year, Dallas filmmaker Yen Tan’s  very gay drama “Ciao” was one of the standout films.)
SOME, yes. There’s “Valentino: The Last Emperor,” a profile of the gay Italian fashion designer, and… well, that’s it so far as I can tell. A movie with gay rights activist Charlize Theron and another with “Will & Grace’s” Eric McCormack are about as gay as it gets beyond that.
C’mon, AFI, show us the (same-sex) love!

I’ve boycotted AFI since year one. I found out from an AFI inside-source that my movie R U INVITED? wasn’t accepted because it was “too gay” and since it was AFI’s first year, they were being very careful to not scare away their sponsors.
And it’s funny how the 173ish movies have yet to find distribution and my film R U INVITED? not only has U.S. distribution but it’s also has WORLDWIDE distribution including France, Monaco, Luxemburg, Belgium, Switzerland, Dom Tom, Andorra, New Zeland and Australia.
So, I won’t be attending ANY of their festivals now or in the future. Well, maaaaaaaaybe if they sincerely apologize…IN PERSON…but until then…HELL to tha NO.

Eeek! How did my old contact info pop up?! Darn the BF’s computer. But to add to the above, I’m not going in specifically looking for Hispanic movies. I just want to see a good movie. I hope that AFI’s not the way Israel characterizes and maybe they are but for the most part, entertainment is entertainment and don’t we really just all want to be entertained?
Now back to my White Chicks DVD…
Ok so I know this isn’t the first time that I have asked this question, but does anyone know where I can get a discount of that new nautica white sail cologne ? I smelled a sample of it at dillards the other day, and um yeah my husband has to smell like this lol!
