Equality Texas sends along word that SB 723, by Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, has been placed back on the Texas Senate’s intent calendar for Tuesday. SB 723 would remove a court order of sex change from the list of documents that can be used to obtain marriage licenses. A response to the Nikki Araguz case, the bill would effectively bar transgender people from marrying people of the opposite sex in Texas. To contact your state senator and urge them to oppose SB 723, go here.
This is so scary and Im completely LIVID that there are actual human beings trying to take my rights away! Land of the free? I think not!
Fu*king Republicans! Log Cabin Republicans = Republicans.
Stephani, it’s not the “Land of The Free” – it never really was. Until being trans is taken out of the DSM IV and showed to be a physical condition and not a “mental” issue, Trans will never be taken serious. And thats not to say that they never will be – it just will help in legal issues like this.
Because I’m sick of people saying its a “choice”. I was born a true hermaphrodite by legal definition. I understand what trans go through, its very similar for us in medical hormonal treatments and corrective surgical procedures. I transitioned from a very androgynous male image to a female image. For some reason, people feel “sorry” for me that I’ve been through what I’ve been through in my transition but when I ask them “What do you think about transsexuals?” And they can’t stand them! What a double standard and it pisses me off.
I’m trying to get a legal explanation as to if my marriage to my cisgender female partner is now void. When we were married over a decade ago, it was a traditional marriage between a male and female. So now that I have had all the genital corrective surgery I want, I am now legally a female since my name and gender marker has been changed. I’m just waiting on flying home to change my birth certificate. So now since I was married in Texas and we’re two females, does this cancel my marriage certificate and make it void? We shall see.
