Both houses of the Nevada Legislature over the weekend voted to override Gov. Jim Gibbons’ veto of legislation granting domestic partner benefits to same-sex couples in that state.
And across the country in New Hampshire, word is that the House and the Senate have reached an agreement on amendment to a bill legalizing same-sex marriage that will meet with Gov. John Lynch’s requirement to “protect” religions that have objections to performing same-sex weddings.
Action on the New Hampshire amendment is supposedly expected by Wednesday.
Back in Nevada, the Associated Press is reporting that the veto override passed by the bare two-thirds minimum in both houses. The new law “provides that domestic partners have the same rights as married couples in matters such as community property and responsibility for debts. It also prohibits discrimination against domestic partners. The measure states that no “solemnization ceremony” is required and it’s “left to the dictates and conscience of partners entering into a domestic partnership” whether to have such a ceremony,” according to AP.
