Fresh off its 2026 NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest win and tour, Dallas hip-hop collective Cure for Paranoia and queer frontman Cameron McCloud announced on Tuesday a partnership with nonpartisan voter registration organization HeadCount for “A Verse A Day,” a 15-day creative countdown to National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 15.
Beginning today, McCloud will write and share a new original verse every day across his social channels. The series culminates on Sept. 15 in New York City, where McCloud will deliver his final verse live as part of HeadCount’s National Voter Registration Day NYC Block Party.
For McCloud, the challenge echoes last year’s big project.
In 2025, the musician embarked on a notably ambitious 365-day verse challenge where he wrote and posted a new rap every day for the entire year. Throughout, he touched on politics, culture, grief, mental health and personal growth. That vibe continues with a new focus.
“A Verse A Day” will help to serve HeadCount’s mission of encouraging people to participate in democracy and use their voices for upcoming elections.
“The ‘my vote doesn’t even matter’ rhetoric is so dumb to me, because if your vote didn’t matter they wouldn’t be trying so hard to suppress it,” McCloud stated in today’s announcement. “That’s why I chose to bring back the daily’s for this 15-day countdown with HeadCount because this is the best way that I could use my voice to remind the people how much power theirs has.”
This continues to be a landmark year for Cure for Paranoia. As stated above, CFP was announced as the winner of NPR Music’s 2026 Tiny Desk Contest for the collective’s performance of “No Brainer.” The win took them behind to NPR’s Tiny Desk for CFP’s official concert debut as well as the Tiny Desk Contest On The Road tour, with stops in Los Angeles, Seattle, Austin, Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston, New York and Washington, D.C.
The band went on to play SXSW London, the Valkhof Festival in the Netherlands and the WOMAD Festival in the UK.
Cure for Paranoia was also announced at the inaugural Oak Lawn Live festival on Sept. 19 and will appear at Austin City Limits Music Festival in October.
HeadCount works through music, culture and community to turn fans into voters. The national, nonpartisan organization is often seen at concerts, festivals and online to connect with fans in attempts to make it easier to register to vote, learn about elections and take part in democracy.
Since 2004, the organization has registered more than 1.7 million new voters through its work with artists like Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter, Green Day and Billie Eilish. HeadCount’s 125,000+ volunteer squad can be seen at more than 1,500 live events each year. The focus: Removing barriers and keeping information simple and accessible to help more people shape the future.
