Unleashed LGBTQ, LLC organizers this week announced six award winners who will be recognized at the 2025 Unleashed LGBTQ Conference, happening Sept. 19-21 in various venues along the Cedar Springs Strip.

“Unleashed LGBTQ, LLC is proud to continue its tradition of honoring excellence by recognizing outstanding individuals who are shaping and uplifting our community,” noted a press release announcing the awards. “The Unleashed LGBTQ+ Conference/Festival celebrates not only conversation and connection but also the remarkable achievements of those who use their voices and platforms to inspire change. Each year, we recognize leaders whose impact is felt across culture, advocacy, and the arts.”

Wesley Smoot, Unleashed LGBTQ founder, announced that John Waters is being recognized with the Unleashed LGBTQ+ Lifetime Achievement Award.

Saying it is “an extraordinary honor” to present the award to the “legendary director,” Smoot added, “He has been a source of inspiration and empowerment for countless queer people and artists alike.”

Also being recognized this year are Dallas Voice Publisher Leo Cusimano, receiving the Excellence in Journalism Award; Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson, receiving the Impact Award; Dr. Field Harrison, receiving the Allyship Award; television personality Carmen Carrera, receiving the Trailblazer Award, and Dallas Museum of Art’s Chief Experience Officer Brad Pritchett, receiving the Culture and Influence Award.

Smoot said more award winners will be announced at a later date.

Past Unleashed LGBTQ recipients include Steven Romo, Melissa Grove and Mark Cuban.

Smoot said that 50 percent of all ticket sales for this year’s conference and festival will “directly benefit the Human Rights Campaign, underscoring Unleashed’s commitment to advocacy and equality.”

The press release said, “Beyond the awards, Unleashed LGBTQ+ creates a vibrant, interactive space for brands, entertainers, and professionals to connect. Over three days, the festival hosts speakers, panels, film screenings, and performances featuring some of the biggest names in film, television, music, business, tech and non-profit.”
