As a certified family business specialist for Cornerstone Wealth Strategies, Judy Sherman has all the credentials and experience she needs to help make sure her clients get the biggest bang for the bucks when it comes to financial planning. That CFBS after her name means that she has earned that designation conferred by The American College. The CLTC? That means she is certified in long term care, an area that focuses on the complexities and expenses of services for the aged. And the CEPA after her name means she is a certified exit planning advisor, trained to help business owners build a successful company and create a financial plan that will help them either successfully sell that business or seamlessly transition to retirement.
But Sherman doesn’t just have all the bases covered when it comes to financial planning. She is just as active as a volunteer and changemaker in the LGBTQ community as she is in her professional world.
She has been prominently involved in the community for years, having served on the board of Black Tie Dinner and having co-chaired Resource Center’s signature annual fundraiser, Toast to Life. She is also a member of various Chambers of Commerce across North Texas, including the North Texas LGBT Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Grapevine Area Rotary Club and a member of Women in Financial Services. She also served on the board for Texas Women’s Foundation.
In addition to all that, Sherman combined her financial expertise with her love for the community to help found the Texas Pride Impact Funds, a nonprofit incorporated in 2015 to mobilize donors and funders to build a financial foundation that will allow the organization to award grants to LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS organizations in such a way as to “move resources to strengthen diverse organizations, projects and leaders building equitable opportunities for support, advocacy, and community serving every part of the state.”
Last summer, TPIF awarded grants to 37 recipients and in doing so surpassed the $1 million mark in total grants. Then last September, TPIF announced it would begin taking applications for Texas Health Impact Grants as one of 13 AMP Grant Program leads chosen by ViiV Healthcare.
Sherman has received a MassMutual Community Service Award in recognition of her volunteer contributions and has been nominated for the North Texas LGBT Chamber’s Community Excellence Award. Now, she can add RVA winner to her list of accomplishments.
