Below are the top 10 places for violent crime out of the 27 Target Area Action Grids, which are identified by Dallas police as the city’s major crime hotspots.

Among them are the Five Points and Ross-Bennett TAAGs, but you won’t find the Wycliff-Lemmon TAAG, previously known as the Cedar Springs-Wycliff and Maple-Wycliff TAAG, high on the list anymore.

Four years ago, the Wycliff-Lemmon TAAG, which encompasses Maple Avenue to Lemmon Avenue and from Oak Lawn Avenue to Kings Road and includes the Cedar Strings strip, was ranked as high as No. 2 for violent crime.

At the end of last year, it had fallen to No. 14. As of July 14, the area was No. 18 for violent crime, according to statistics obtained from Dallas police.

However, the area is No. 7 for nonviolent crime, down from No. 6 at the same time last year. Increases were seen in business burglaries, which more than doubled with 10 last year to 22 so far this year in the first half of the year. Burglaries of motor vehicles have also increased with an 11.4 percent jump.

As for overall crime, the Wycliff-Lemmon TAAG is No 8 so far this year, compared to a No. 7 ranking at the same time last year. The area had fallen to No. 10 for overall crime by the end of last year.
