UPDATE AT 10:45 A.M. THURSDAY, FEB. 6: Dallas Police have released this report regarding the shooting Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, in the 3900 block of Rawlins that left one man dead:
“On February 5, 2025, at about 6:45 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 3900 block of Rawlins Street. The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found 45-year-old Carlos Manuel Rivera , shot, at the location.
Rivera died at the scene.
“This investigation is ongoing and is documented on case number 016949-2025.
Anyone with information regarding this offense is asked to contact Detective Josue Rodriguez at 214-605-1557 or josue.rodriguez@dallaspolice.gov.”
Friends of Rivera say the shooting was not a suicide.
UPDATE AT 1:20 P.M.: A resident in the area where this shooting occurred has said the shooting was a suicide, possibly following a domestic dispute.
UPDATE AT 1:13 P.M.: Residents of the area are saying that the shooting was a suicide.
UPDATE: Info from Dallas PD’s Public Information Office at 11:08 a.m.: “On February 4, 2025, at about 8 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a call regarding gunfire in the 3300 block of Throckmorton Street. The preliminary investigation determined there was no evidence of a shooting, and no injuries were reported. This investigation is documented under incident number 25-0206028.”

ORIGINAL POST: One person is dead following a shooting in Oak Lawn, according to news reports from WFAA Channel 8.
A source tells Dallas Voice that just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night, Feb. 4, they were walking their dogs outside their office in the area near the intersection of Rawlins and Reagan streets when they heard two gun shots in rapid succession. They said they quickly bundled up the dogs and got into the car to leave, and, as they were pulling out of the office driveway, they heard two more shots.
The source said as they were leaving the area they saw a large number of police cars on North Hall Street between Throckmorton and Knight. Then as they were arriving at their office this morning (Wednesday, Feb. 5), they saw a car on Rawlins Street, between Throckmorton and Knight, sitting with all its doors open, surrounded by crime scene tape.
According to WFAA reports, a DPD press release indicates officers responded to a shooting around 6:50 a.m. today in the 3900 block of Rawlins Street, and investigators found that one person had been shot. That individual later died, the release states.
Dallas Voice has contacted the Dallas Police Department’s public information office and is waiting for further details. Watch this space for updates.

Umm the shooting this morning on rawlins was not a suicide. Carlos was my friend, he was shot. Someone needs to reach out to me because this story isn’t correct.

The shooting .was a tragic situation for both involved.and my heart is hurting for both sides of this . This might have been a suicide or a life or death accurrece. None of us was in that car with them . You seen what I seen . He was beating the crap out that girl. And if you say he wasn’t your a lier . Maybe he should have Not Been hitting anyone that way . But this world is full of men and women like that . But just maybe they was In fear of that man who knows .

She should of never shot at him twice, and she was in her car, she could of drove off. He was outside the car the first shot, not until she shot at him did he hit her. If you are in fear of someone, then why would you bring their gun, loaded, back to them, with the rest of their belongings? Oh yeah, and be hiding it in the front seat. That’s premeditated….
So he didn’t hit her until after the first shot foreal than why did she shoot the first time . And where did she shoot him at why ain’t she in jail for murder or is she .I don’t understand two shots and she was in car and he was not ? Wow that’s murder .anyone sees that she should be treated like a killer was there any one that told the cops that or what ? I live in the area I just was asleep when it happened now I curious .Who is this girl was it his girl friend?
You’re right,there is no reason why she should be in jail, 2 times she shot at him. It wasn’t his girlfriend, but a side piece of 12 years, she brought the gun with her when she was dropping off his clothes.
